Climate Silence - and how to break it

My Climate & Me

The Met Office has launched a new interactive web site for those interested in climate change, aimed mainly at young people.

The aim of My Climate & Me is to become the go-to source for helping people to understand our climate. So far, they've picked up a camera and set off across the UK to interview people, companies and celebrities - giving them the opportunity to ask us a climate question that’s important to them.

Each week they will put a question to their scientists which is submitted and voted for by the public.

Check out the website to ask a question, vote in a poll or explore their video clips.

Carbon Capital Handbook

The financial sector views fossil fuels as a reliable bet, and is betting on the UK government doing little to curb our oil, gas and coal addiction. With tax breaks of over £1 billion to North Sea oil, and new carbon reporting rules that don’t even ask financiers to count the impact of their investments, it has not been disappointed.

This booklet, compiled by the World Development Movement, looks at how the City of London organises the fossil fuel investments for destructive fossil fuel projects that are leading to runaway climate change, and asks what we can do to stop it. Its aim is to inform campaigners and equip them to take action.

It argues that if climate change is to break out of its ‘left wing ghetto’, it must be communicated in a way that resonates with the values of the centre-right – and offers four narratives for bringing climate change into the mainstream.

Energy Bill Briefing: Political update

This briefing provides an update on the three most important issues facing the Energy Bill:

1. the need for a power sector decarbonisation target in 2030;
2. the lack of energy efficiency measures in the Bill;
3. the dangers of dependence on expensive, volatile, imported fossil fuels.
If these issues are addressed by the government before the Energy Bill is passed, we will have ensured that it delivers for the economy, consumers and the environment.
