WE MUST TRANSFORM BRITAIN’S ROLE IN THE FIGHT AGAINST CLIMATE CHANGE, FROM ADDING TO IT TO HALTING IT.

The majority of British people want the UK to cut its emissions to a net of zero over the next few decades to play our part in putting a halt to climate change, and that there is no time to waste – in order to protect our countryside, create more green jobs, build a fairer country, remain at the forefront of innovation, and build a clearer and safer future for this generation and the next.  

Since 175 countries signed onto the Paris Agreement in 2015, the groundbreaking IPCC report in October last year highlighted the catastrophic impacts that the worlds nature and people will face if temperature rise globally exceed 1.5 degrees. In order to prevent this, every country in the world needs to commit to a legally binding net zero target.

The UK Committee on Climate Change have recently advised the government they must act now and put legislation in place as soon as possible if we're to reach net zero emissions by 2050. We welcome this advice, which is critical for us to achieve a safer future for this generation and those to come, but we think the government should go even further. We know it’s possible. We know the majority of people support it. We know we can and should get there sooner.
