Launch of The Climate Coalition's Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Report

25th July 2024

The Climate Coalition is thrilled to announce the launch of our new Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Report! This comprehensive report marks a significant milestone in our ongoing commitment to fostering an inclusive and equitable climate movement. It is the result of extensive listening exercises and collaboration across our diverse community, providing a deep dive into the insights, challenges, and opportunities we face as we strive to build a movement that truly represents and empowers all voices.

About the Report

Today, we have published our Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Report, an independent review following a series of deep listening exercises with members, community groups and individuals including those from minority and marginalised backgrounds. The report focuses on how we can deliver our strategy in an equitable and inclusive way. The report outlines key findings and offers actionable recommendations centred around core themes:

  • Applying an Equity lens to our organisational strategy

  • Power dynamics

  • Opportunities and barriers to engagement

  • Accountability

  • Wellbeing

  • Visions for a more equitable and inclusive future.

It serves as both a reflection of our current state and a roadmap for future progress.

Our vision

At the heart of our strategy is the belief that ‘People Are Powerful When They Come Together’. We believe in the transformative power of collective action, and our mission is to harness this power to drive meaningful change. This involves not only advocating for climate and nature justice but also ensuring that our efforts uplift and amplify the voices of those most affected by these crises, particularly marginalised and underrepresented communities.

We envision a future where equity, diversity, and inclusion are fundamental to our work. We strive to build a unified movement by connecting diverse community groups, individuals, and organisations to drive transformative change.

Our approach focuses on collaboration, shared learning, and open dialogue. We will prioritise listening and transparency to ensure all voices, especially from marginalised communities, are heard and valued. Acknowledging our role in the Global North, we are committed to supporting justice and equity in addressing the climate and nature crises.

Above all, we aim to cultivate a culture of collective care, celebrating joy, comfort, and justice as we work towards a diverse and inclusive future for all.

A call to action

This report is not just a document; it's a call to action. It challenges us to reflect on our practices, embrace new perspectives, and continuously strive for greater inclusivity and equity in all that we do. We invite you to join us on this journey, as we work together to create a space that celebrates joy, fosters justice, and centres collective care and accountability.

By engaging with this report, you are contributing to a movement that seeks to make a real difference in the world. Together, we can build a future that is not only sustainable but also just and inclusive for everyone.

THE CLIMATE COALITION APPOINTS EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

September 2023

The Climate Coalition is excited to announce the appointment of Helen Meech to the role of Executive Director. Helen will be joining us from RSPB where she has been Head of Movement Building since 2021.

Helen is an experienced campaigner, creative strategist and former CEO with 20 years’ experience of collaborative campaigning, movement-building, public engagement and influencing work. She holds a deep belief in the power of people to change the world, with a track record of using creativity and innovation to create transformative campaigns which shift the public narrative on nature and climate. Most recently she has led the development of the world’s first People’s Plan for Nature - a plan for the renewal of UK nature, co-created with the public through an innovative participatory process.

Helen says, “The need for change has never been more urgent, or higher up the public agenda. I’m thrilled to be joining The Climate Coalition at such a crucial moment, and look forward to working with our members and the wider movement to drive action for climate justice.”

Sophie Marple, The Climate Coalition Board Chair, says, “We are delighted to have Helen join The Climate Coalition team as Executive Director. Helen’s impressive experience and her people centred approach to change makes her the perfect choice for the role.  From soaring temperatures to wildfires across the globe, this is a critical time for action on climate and with strong leadership, TCC is uniquely placed to push for change.”

Helen will start her post in September.
